NOTHING BUT JESUS

If you should offer me a stage,

a place for me to shine,

Where crowds applaud me loudly,

fame and fortune are both mine;

I'd have to tell you "No",

though I know you wouldn't see,

I'd smile and answer softly

"Nothing but Jesus now for me."

If you promised me great wealth,

a life of comfort, style and ease

Where nothing I'd desire

would be beyond my reach,

I'd smile again with patience

and thank you graciously

And then I'd tell you plainly

"There's only Jesus now for me."

If you then placed power before me,

might to rule the lives of men

Wide influence and honour,

authority and strength

Again I'd disappoint you,

but perhaps you might perceive

A deep resolve behind my smile:

"Only Jesus now for me."

I cannot make you understand,

or give you eyes to see

Why nothing else now moves me

like His matchless company

Jesus pure and simple,

that's my fervent expectation

Nothing else but Jesus,

my single destination

If He offers me a lonely cross,

or a prison dark and deep,

Still I have no other answer,

"Just Jesus now for me"

I cannot say, nor can I tell,

how I'd stand in such a place,

I only know my sorrow

cannot exceed His grace;

For I have tasted and I've seen

that nothing else comes close

He's ruined me for other things

I'd once have gladly owned

And there's a sacred stillness

where He and I've agreed,

"Just Jesus, only Jesus"

is my forever plea.

Please, nothing else but Jesus,

though the price is high

It's He who owns me now,

and He who guards my life;

My God is all consuming,

a Living Fire of grace,

He does not share His temple

or stand in second place,

So you will have to seek Him out

and you too must decide

If the world can offer anything

like this One that You will find,

As for me, my choice is made,

and I have no regrets ~

It's Jesus, only Jesus,

nothing more and nothing less.
