Burundian Christian women from the Hutu tribe

.

These Hutu believers gathered outside the church to have their photos taken.

Two young refugee girls posed shyly for the camera.

This dancing Burundian pastor could not contain his joy.

Burundian Christians deep in worship

Bujumbura is very steep and hilly with many banana plantations. Burundian women walk long distances balancing heavy loads on their heads.

Streetkids in Bujumbura pose outside a military barracks. Not shown in the picture is the large group of armed Burundian soldiers watching us suspiciously off to the left. Had we attempted to take their photo or moved closer to the barracks with the camera it's probable the camera would have been confiscated, at the very least.

Burundi is a beautiful country but impoverished by
decades of civil war.
